Getting here from Phoenix
Our office is at 605 East Broadway Road in Tempe, on Broadway Road just west of Rural Road. From central Phoenix that is roughly ten miles and 15 to 25 minutes outside of rush hour. Ahwatukee and the neighborhoods around Sky Harbor are closer. North Phoenix, Desert Ridge, Moon Valley and the Deer Valley area, is a 30 to 40 minute drive, which is one reason people up there tend to choose video for the regular hour and save the drive for the visits that need it.
The usual routes from Phoenix:
- From downtown and the I-10 corridor: I-10 east to US-60 east, exit at Rural Road, then north about a mile and a half to Broadway Road.
- From east Phoenix, Arcadia and the Biltmore area: Loop 202 east to Scottsdale Road, which becomes Rural Road as it enters Tempe, then south to Broadway Road.
- From south Phoenix: Broadway Road itself runs straight east into Tempe and brings you to the door. From Ahwatukee: I-10 east to US-60 east, then Rural Road north.
- By light rail: Valley Metro Rail runs from downtown Phoenix into Tempe. The University Drive and Rural Road station is about a mile north of the office.
Parking is free on site, including accessible spaces, and the route from the parking area to the waiting room is step-free, with an automatic door at the main entrance.
What works by video from Phoenix, and what needs the office
Everything we offer by video is open to you in Phoenix, because the only requirement is that you are physically in Arizona at the time of the visit. Here is how it splits.
By video, from anywhere in Phoenix
- Individual therapy: 60 minutes with the same therapist each time. You can switch between video and the office as it suits you.
- Couples therapy, as long as both of you are in Arizona at the time of the session.
- Psychiatric evaluations: the full 60-minute appointment with our board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner.
- Most medication management follow-ups, usually 20 to 30 minutes.
- The free 15-minute consultation itself, which is always by video.
At the Tempe office
- The Intensive Outpatient Program and the Partial Hospitalization Program, which meet in person in Tempe. The weekly one-on-one session that comes with the IOP can be by video.
- Group therapy: six to eight people in the same room, weekly, for a set number of weeks.
- Any visit your clinician says needs to be in person. Some decisions in medication management and some parts of trauma work are better made in the room. Your clinician tells you which, and you book it.
You can mix the two. Some people prefer an in-person first visit, to see the office and meet their clinician face to face, and then move to video for the regular hour with the office there whenever they want it. Either order works, and you can change your mind later.
Who we see from Phoenix
PATH is an outpatient behavioral health practice for adults 18 and over. We do not see children or teenagers.
People come to us from Phoenix for the same reasons they come from anywhere else: anxiety that has become the normal setting, depression that has gone on long enough to change how they work and sleep, trauma, grief, OCD, postpartum changes, or the question of whether adult ADHD or bipolar disorder explains a pattern that has been there for years. You do not need a diagnosis to book, and most people do not need a referral.
A practice in Tempe makes sense for a lot of Phoenix for a practical reason: the office is a few minutes off the I-10 and Loop 202 corridors that many people already commute along, and video removes the drive entirely for the regular weekly hour. If you work downtown and live in the East Valley, Tempe is on the way home.
Insurance and cost for Phoenix patients
We accept Aetna, Cigna, Carelon Behavioral Health and Curative for individual therapy, couples therapy, psychiatric evaluations and medication management. Where you live in Phoenix makes no difference to that; the plan and the service are what matter.
If you are paying yourself, every price is listed on our insurance and pricing page, and a sliding scale is available for financial hardship. If your plan is not one of the four, you can still see us and use your out-of-network benefits: you pay our rate, we give you a superbill, and your plan may pay you back for part of it.
The simplest way to find out what you would pay is the free 15-minute video consultation. It is a conversation with our front desk about cost and next steps, you pick the time yourself, and nothing about it commits you to anything.

Do I have to drive to Tempe?
No. Therapy, couples therapy, psychiatric evaluations and most medication follow-ups can be done by video from anywhere in Phoenix, and the free consultation is always by video. The office is there if you want it, and your clinician will tell you if a particular visit needs to happen in person.
Can I use Aetna if I live in Phoenix?
Yes. We accept Aetna, Cigna, Carelon Behavioral Health and Curative for individual therapy, couples therapy, psychiatric evaluations and medication management, whether you are seen by video in Phoenix or in person in Tempe. Your plan's normal copay or coinsurance applies, and we check your coverage on the free consultation.
How long does it take to get in?
Usually three to five business days for therapy and for a psychiatric evaluation. On the free consultation you get an actual date, not a range.
I live in north Phoenix. Is it worth the drive?
You can do everything except the day programs and group therapy by video from north Phoenix and never make the drive. If you would rather see the office, it is about 30 to 40 minutes outside of rush hour by Loop 101, or by State Route 51 and Loop 202, and parking is free on site.
Do you see teenagers or children?
No. PATH sees adults 18 and over, in Arizona.
Phoenix is a short drive, or no drive at all.
A free 15-minute video consultation at a time you pick, a short call to match you with the right clinician, and a confirmed date on the calendar. You will know what it costs before you commit to anything.
