Accessibility at PATH

What this website and our Tempe office can and cannot do, stated plainly. Someone who arrives to find a step nobody mentioned has been failed twice.

Getting into the building

The main entrance is the accessible entrance. There is no separate side door or back route, and it has an automatic door opener.

Parking is free and on site, including ADA-accessible spaces. From those spaces to the main entrance, through the waiting room, and on into the clinical areas, the route is step-free. There are no steps, no raised thresholds and no narrow turns anywhere along it.

The main entrance and every interior clinical door are a minimum of 36 inches wide. Interior doors are manual rather than automatic, so if you would rather not manage a door yourself, say so when you arrive and somebody will get it.

Restrooms

There are two accessible restrooms, both close to the waiting room. You do not have to go back through a clinical area or down a corridor to reach one.

Service animals

Service animals are welcome, in line with the ADA. Your animal may come with you anywhere patients normally go, and needs to be under your control.

If it is not obvious that an animal is a service animal, staff may ask two questions: whether the animal is required because of a disability, and what work or task it has been trained to perform. They will not ask about your disability and will not ask the animal to demonstrate anything.

An emotional support animal that has not been trained to perform a specific disability-related task is not a service animal under the ADA. That is the federal definition rather than our preference, and it is worth a phone call before you arrive rather than a conversation at the door.

Interpreters and other accommodations

If you need an ASL interpreter, another spoken-language interpreter, or any other communication accommodation, call us before your appointment and we will go through the options with you.

[CONFIRM: how much advance notice an ASL interpreter actually needs, in days. A deaf patient cannot plan around 'contact us in advance'. Also: assistive listening, and whether a support person may sit in]

This website

  • Text and background colors meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast throughout
  • Every link in page content is underlined, so color is never the only signal. Navigation and footer links are styled as buttons and list items rather than underlined text
  • Body text is 17px and resizes without breaking the layout. Labels, captions and small print are smaller, and never below 13px
  • Forms have visible labels above every field, never placeholder-only
  • Every control is reachable and operable by keyboard with a visible focus ring
  • Crisis phone numbers are at least 48px tall, so they can be hit without aiming

If something here is a barrier

Call us and say so. The building facts above come from walking the space, not from a floor plan, but the person who walked it is not you. If you get here and something in your way was not on this page, we want to hear it, and we will tell you honestly whether we can fix it.
