How much does a psychiatric evaluation cost in Tempe?
A psychiatric evaluation at PATH is $300 if you pay yourself. With Aetna, Cigna, Carelon Behavioral Health or Curative, we accept your plan, and you pay its normal copay or coinsurance. Your cost depends on your plan. We confirm the dollar amount with you when we call you back, before anything is final.
How soon can I get an evaluation?
As soon as the next day, in person in Tempe or by video. When we call you back, you get an actual date, not a range.
Do I see a psychiatrist?
No. Evaluations here are done by a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP). In Arizona, nurse practitioners can evaluate, diagnose and prescribe on their own. An evaluation here covers what most people are looking for when they search for a psychiatrist.
What is the difference between a psychiatric evaluation and psychological testing?
A psychiatric evaluation here is a 60-minute clinical appointment with a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. It is a structured conversation about your history and what you have been experiencing. You leave with her impressions, a recommendation and a plan. Psychological testing is a different service, a much longer process of formal tests over several hours with a licensed psychologist. We do not offer formal psychological testing. If it would help your care, we refer you and coordinate with the psychologist.
Will I leave with a prescription?
Not necessarily, and it is worth going in without that expectation. The point of the appointment is to work out what would actually help.
Can I do this by video?
Yes. The evaluation can be in person at our Tempe office, or by video anywhere in Arizona, whichever you prefer. Follow-up visits after it can be either way too.
Do you see patients from Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert and Scottsdale?
Yes. Most of our patients come from Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Phoenix and Scottsdale. You can come to our Tempe office in person, or join by video from anywhere in Arizona. You need to be in Arizona at the time of the visit.
How long does it take?
About 60 minutes.
Can someone come with me?
Yes. With your consent a family member, caregiver or support person may attend and take part, where that is clinically appropriate.
What if I am already taking medication?
Bring the full current list. Your prescriber will review what you are taking before suggesting any change.
When do I get formal documentation?
Generally within 2 to 3 business days of the evaluation. You leave the appointment itself with a written summary.
What if I decide against medication?
That is entirely your decision, and it will not affect your care here.
What if I need to cancel?
